Exciting Feature Added

Exciting Feature Added… Ive been anticipating this new upgrade for a quite some time, and I know there are others that have been anticipating it more than I have! Im really excited about this new functionality. The newest release news, released last night at about 3am is all about an interface for your COACH. Whether you have a formal paid coach, a mentor, or a career counselor, it is a great help to have another set of eyeballs checking out what you are doing. This update gives YOU, the Job Seeker, the ability to set up and manage your Coach(es). Heres a scenario (names may be real does that spice it up a little? ) John is a seasoned executive who is aggressively looking for a job right now. John has immersed himself in best-practices in a job search and has been quite effective. He is also increasing his professional network by leaps and bounds as he spends a significant amount of time in targeted networking. John arranged to have a professional career counselor, Ron, as his Coach. Ron has weekly accountability calls with John to go over the last week (did you meet your goals, have the meetings been effective, etc.) and talk about the next week (do you need to adjust the goals, what specifically are you going to do to ensure that you can meet the goals?) Having a Coach gives John a persective that really hold him accountable without the negative emotions that can weigh us job seekers down. With this new feature John can say add Ron as my Coach. Ron will then have a dashboard-like view and see WHAT John has been up to. There are various reports that Ron can pull with regard to companies and network contacts. He can see the log entries that John puts in in real-time. And of course hell be able to see general stuff like profile info as well as search on all of this data. Note that Ron is a Coach for other people, and he will also be able to view their data (if they let him!) so Ron will have one screen to help him see whats going on with all of his people. He can narrow down the view to just one person. He can set up a weekly report for Johns search but perhaps he is coaching someone that he wants to review closer so he can set up a daily report for them. The implications of this are very cool and powerful. I know that Ron isnt going to micromanage Johns job search, but just having the ability to see this data whenever he wants is so powerful. He can send an attaboy anytime he wants based on the data that he reviews (even if it is on a day when he isnt scheduled to communicate with John. This is powerful because the job search can be hard and depressing, and getting an e-mail from Ron saying hey, I just say that you . Great Job! can be just the boost that John needs. In addition, Ron can go and pull the reports right before the meeting with John so John doesnt have to spend time preparing the reports, and Ron can go into the acountability session more prepared! Note that you can be a job seeker with a Coach AND coach someone at the same time! This is a realistic scenerio where you need someone elses help at the same time that you help others. You know accountants have their own accountants, right? If you want to get a coach (you have to know who that person is) just go to TOOLS, and youll see the coach link in the drop-down. If you want to be a coach just go to My Account, and in the Coach tab youll see the checkbox to make yourself a coach. Your landing page will then be in that TOOLS drop-down. If you dont know have any idea on how to get a coach, consider a professional Ill have some listed on my website, or you can go to the Library and look in the articles or links for coaches. This is just the beginning of the coach interface Im sure that Ill get some great feedback over the next few weeks and design enhancements to this interface. If you are in a serious job search, find someone that can be your coach and then set them up in JibberJobber as your coach. The ability to share this information is powerful and helpful in your job search. Aside from this update there are, as usual, some polishing touches that went in in the last two weeks. Just more stuff to make your experience richer The next update is going to be big also, I promise youll love it. It might be a couple of weeks out but it will be worth the wait ?? DormStory Gap Year In North Korea, Job Of The Day

DormStory Gap Year In North Korea, Job Of The Day 1. Worlds First Confirmed Sexual Harassment Case  via  MOOC platform US colleges have had a bad press with sexual harassment at colleges. However who would have thought that sexual harassment would still prevail even if the student was not on the campus. This case casts the question, who oversees the MOOC platform through which universities offer their MOOCs. + Inside Higher Ed:  The harassment, however, “started day one,” Harbi said. Eventually, she said she discovered she was one of many women, which MIT confirmed. A cruel story of how sexual harassment started through a MOOC course. 2. UK University  Tuition Fee A Proven Bait Seems like, tinkering with the tuition fees is a bait any politician would offer to get student support. In 2010 the Lib Dems played the no-tuition fee card. And tuition fees shot up by 300% as soon as they came into sharing power. Now, Ed Miliband is rumored to be working on an eye-catching policy of reducing tuition fees to £6000 from current £9000. Be scared, we all know what happened the previous time a politician tried to tinker with tuition fee. + BBC:  Ed Miliband, wants to next month announce an eye-catching policy of cutting maximum university fees for students by a third, from £9,000 to £6,000. 3. Kings College Was Rebranding, who knew? Kings College London wanted to rebrand itself as Kings London. One of the reasons was because the term College caused considerable confusion amongst parents and potential applicants. Yes, in that sense Kings London would make more sense  is it? + THE: Kings College London drops rebrand plan   + Visual.ly: 10 Biggest Rebranding Failures, Royal Mail gets a mention too! 4. Gap Year In  North Korea: Surely A Selling Point! +HuffPo: Love teaching and want a quiet time?  You might want to add North Korea on the job search list. The secretive country is  looking for foreign volunteer teachers. The cost? £765 which includes travel,  accommodation and excursions. There is no way, I can sell this any further. For £765 you can get a TV and PS4. Try that instead. 5. Beautiful Libraries Around The World I love libraries, they have books. You know what books do? They enlighten however, it seems, printing currency on paper has more value that printing words on paper. As UK libraries face the chop in an effort to save costs lets still see some beautiful libraries elsewhere. + Guardian: University Library of the 21st Centuries in photos. We Must Like You to Hire You - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

We Must Like You to Hire You - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career In all the time I’ve been working, coaching, teaching and speaking: I have never met anyone who is too stupid or uneducated to get the job they really wanted. I’ve never met a business owner or someone who wanted to be an entrepreneur who lacks the intelligence or ability to build the enterprise they really wanted to captain. It’s been about 15 years, and I’ve directly met over 50,000 people, plus many more from speaking to audiences around the world. So, I have a lot of proof that you can do pretty much what you want to do. Your life is pretty much what you make it. If you feel you’ve got a skills or information deficit, at your fingertips on a moment’s notice, you can learn almost anything. Just Google “how to roast a prime rib to medium rare” or “how to do a laparoscopic spay.” True, that last one presupposes you run a veterinary clinic, but most often the skills or knowledge you need are all over the web, with plenty of videos to give you second opinions, workarounds, alternative approaches and some good arguments. In addition to various search engines directing you to real time resources, you have an abundance of remarkable educational institutions offering free courses on science, technology, management, design, and nearly every other topic you can yearn for. Of course as an educator with UCLA Extension, I must mention you have access to an abundance of high quality on-ground and online courses for a fee. These 2-day to 12-week courses often turbo charge your learning, because you apply new skills as you study with teachers who are working in the field you want to enter. There’s so much knowledge, it’s impossible to say you can’t become exactly what you feel driven to achieve. And, if you can just watch videos: you pretty much have the intellectual capacity required for that dream, along with the resources. So it’s not for lack of intellectual capacity or opportunities for skill-building that most people find themselves stuck in a bad job or failing in a poorly run business, or failing to fulfill their desire to be an entrepreneur, consultant or anything else. And, it’s not for lack of employers or customers who want to pay reliable, motivated and personable individuals to help them achieve their goals. Truly. That’s the secret. If we don’t like you, we won’t hire you or retain you. Very few people are really personable and likeable. The researcher Anderson along with many others who have expanded or contracted his seminal work on personality, determined there are 555 traits that define anyone’s personality. More than half of those traits are undesirable ones. Your worst personality traits ALWAYS overshadow your good ones. You may be hostile, irritable, selfish, ungenerous, boring, discontented, trouble-making, a gossip, negative, annoying, attention-getting, confused… the list is long. Unfortunately, the people who are stuck, can’t land an interview, can’t get funded, can’t stay in business or otherwise fail are leading with their worst traits, or letting them run amok when they need to be corralled and defused â€" before we meet you. It all but kills me when I meet someone who could be so happy, satisfied, proud, and financially stable except for the fact that their negative personality traits are like a bad odor that won’t go away (so everyone else does). Stop thinking you are being victimized by some outer force â€" although you may be. Most of us who succeed, overcome the odds, including a bad economy, less than ideal bosses and all the other things that are just a part of business and life. Would you like an inventory of the 555 traits, and an assessment of your personality? Email me at Nance@NanceRosen.com. Subject line: 555

Personal Branding Interview Mike Zammuto, Brand.com President - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Personal Branding Interview Mike Zammuto, Brand.com President - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career [This post is proudly sponsored by Brand.com] I recently interviewed Michael Zammuto, who is the President Chief Operating Officer of Brand.com. Mike is a dynamic, multi-award winning online and technology executive with a history that spans multiple successful startups, large technology firms, a top 40 web site and a leadership role with Microsoft. Mikes strength is building companies that scale and execute. Mike is an internationally recognized expert in online reputation management appearing regularly in national and international media as the face of the industry. In this interview, Mike talks about the personal reputation industry, how you can better manage your online personal brand, how recruiters view your online presence, and more. Why did you decide to purchase Brand.com and invest in the personal reputation market? A: We acquired the domain Brand.com because we felt that it better captured our company’s vision. The truth is that reputation management is only a mere facet of the overall picture â€" We want to build and manage our clients’ entire brand, not just one aspect of it. Brand.com conveys this message to our clients. Should all professionals start to manage their online reputation? Is it better to be offensive or defensive? I think that it’s exceedingly important for professionals to be proactive about their online reputation. You never know when negative information will show up about you online, and unfortunately, this is something that many of our clients have learned the hard way. At Brand.com, we strongly encourage that professionals make the decision to manage their online reputation before something detrimental occurs. Professionals should understand that online attacks can come at any time, and as such, they also need to be prepared to take action against all-of-a-sudden attacks â€" that means firing out content on the spot and doing whatever it takes to push back negative listings. You need to be aggressive. When recruiters review your online reputation, what are they looking for? What can turn them off from hiring someone? Recruiters want to make sure that their potential employees are the best amongst the best. This is where search engines come in â€" they are looking for any information about you. The catch is that they’re not just looking for negative information to weed you out of the hiring process, but they’re also looking to make sure that some kind of information shows up in general. If you’re lacking an online presence, the recruiter has no other information about you other than what they see on your resume â€" nothing else to refer to. Companies don’t want to hire someone who has negative information showing up about them on the first page of a search. With that being said, any type of unwanted attention such as a mug shot will surely knock you out of the competition. Recruiters will also search for information on your social media sites. If you make negative posts and comments on your Facebook or Twitter accounts, they will be on the fence about you as an employee. This is not to mention photos â€" the last thing a company wants is an employee who flaunts drunk, slovenly photos. What is your typical client and why do they come to you as a reputation management solution? Our clients range from individuals to large organizations and Fortune 500 companies. We possess the ability to help anyone with their brand and reputation management needs, which brings an array of clients to Brand.com. In addition, we have proprietary technologies that our competitors just don’t have. Take for example the Brand.com Command Center â€" this site allows our clients to monitor their social media, moderate reviews, and approve content all in one place. Having a place where all of this information is easily accessible saves time for our clients. It also offers a simple and streamlined variation on the process of brand monitoring and management. Can Brand.com offer any reputation management tips? The first tip is to make reputation monitoring a priorityâ€"using Google Alerts or our own, free Command Center technology to keep tabs on what people are saying about you online. Second, make sure you have a robust social media presence, regularly posting content to Facebook and Twitter, and also implementing Completed.com. Finally, note that any kind of content creationâ€"such as bloggingâ€"provides the search engines with substance, which you can leverage to improve your personal or corporate brand.
